Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to a call for a front porch fire at 877 Daniels Street NE early Saturday morning according to a report from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. On arrival, the firefighters found the two-story single-family home had been engulfed in flames.
One occupant had reportedly jumped out of the second floor to escape, and crews had to help them away from the building. There were six total occupants, and the report states all escaped the building. Three adults - two adult women and one adult male - were transported to Saint Luke's, while the other three didn't report any injuries.
There were reportedly also three cats and two dogs in the house at the time of the fire, but the report states only one dog survived, and three cats and one dog died in the fire.
Firefighters deployed hoses and extinguished the fire, but the front porch was destroyed and the rest of the house experienced significant fire and smoke damage.
