UPDATE: A Cedar Rapids man faces a host of charges, including attempted murder, after shooting at Cedar Rapids police officers Tuesday morning.
According to police, 21-year-old Christopher S. Forbes, of 1540 F Ave. NW, Apt. 17 has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, domestic abuse with injury, carrying weapons and eluding.
Police said the incident began at 3:21 a.m. when officers were called to an apartment at 5560 Sixth St. SW, the Inn Circle Family Resource Center for a disturbance with a weapon. Inn Circle is a transitional housing center for families with children and expectant mothers.
Police said a suspect, later identified as Forbes, broke into one of the apartments and assaulted two people inside. They suffered non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses gave police a description of Forbes and the vehicle he fled the scene in.
A responding officer saw a vehicle matching the description across the street from Inn Circle and attempted to pull Forbes over. Police said Forbes refused to stop until he crashed into an unoccupied vehicle at 10th Avenue and Ninth Street SW. Forbes then got out of the vehicle and ran on foot.
Police said as Forbes was running, he fired at least two shots at the pursuing officers. Neither officer was hit.
Officers formed a perimeter around the area and found Forbes at 4:30 a.m. with assistance from a Cedar Rapids police K9 officer.
Forbes has prior convictions for theft charges. He was charged in April with possession of a controlled substance.
