May. 13, 2019 3:22 pm
Police took a 40-year-old man into custody Sunday night after he had allegedly barricaded himself inside a residence in the 600 block of 15th Avenue SW and was threatening to harm himself.
According to public safety spokesperson Greg Buelow, police were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers found the man, who was in possession of a knife, had barricaded himself into a second-floor bathroom.
A trained negotiator worked with the man for more than two hours before the situation was resolved, Buelow said.
The man was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. and taken to Mercy Medical Center.
Buelow said police are treating the incident as a medical situation and charges are not likely to be filed.
