Cedar Rapids police credited the dissemination of a suspect's photo for the rapid arrest of a woman who allegedly used a stolen credit card to purchase items at a northeast side grocery store.
According to a police media release, on May 8 the department requested the public's info in identifying the woman in surveillance photos taken from the theft on March 25th. Police say three minutes after the photos were shared to local media and the police department's Facebook page a 'credible tip” came in that helped identify the woman. Later that day the woman contacted police after seeing herself on a local newscast and informed them she would be turning herself in at the Police Station.
The woman has been identified as Carmelia D. McDaniel, 37, of Cedar Rapids, and she was arrested on May 9 for false use of a credit card, according to the release.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department extends its thanks to the public for its assistance in the investigation.
