A man is expected to survive despite being first struck by gunfire and then by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
Cedar Rapids Police Spokesman Greg Buelow wrote in an email to The Gazette that at 3:46 p.m. police were notified of an incident near the intersection of 17th Street and First Avenue SE. Once there they determined that 'an approximately 20-year-old male” had been wounded by gunfire and then stepped into the roadway near that intersection, where he was then hit by a vehicle.
Buelow said the man was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which he said do not appear to be life threatening.
An active police investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
