CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids police are investigating shots-fired incidents that happened Tuesday night in southeast Cedar Rapids, causing property damage.
Officers responded at 7:33 p.m. to 16th Street SE and Washington Avenue SE for a report of damage caused by gunshots, a public safety news release said.
Multiple houses and a gas meter were damaged, the release said. The gunshots caused a gas leak that had to be controlled by the Fire Department and utility workers.
Witnesses told police several juveniles had been in the road but ran into a residence. Police obtained a search warrant for the house, but the juveniles came out before the warrant was served. All were released without charges after police interviewed them. Some evidence was collected during a search of the house, the release states.
Later on Tuesday, police were called again for a report of a car being shot at in the same area. The car had multiple bullet holes in it, and a search showed a possible connection to the shots-fired incident earlier in the evening, the release said.
The investigation is ongoing, the release states, and police were asking witnesses to come forward.
