Sep. 6, 2022 11:53 am
The Cedar Rapids Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that happened in the 300 block of 16th Street SE Monday night, according to a news release from the department.
Officers responded to the area just after 10:30 p.m. for reports of shots being fired. The incident reportedly started as a verbal argument and escalated.
Police found evidence of the shooting, including a home that was hit by gunfire. No one inside the home was injured, and witnesses weren’t able to identify the shooter.
Later that evening, a female showed up at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. She told hospital staff she had been shot on 16th Street SE. Officers believe the injury is related to the shooting, but the woman did not cooperate with investigators, the release states.
The police department is asking the public for help with the investigation. Anyone with access to security camera footage from the area, or anyone who knows who was responsible for the shooting can call the police department at 319-286-5491.
