Cedar Rapids police said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred this weekend.
According to a news release, officers were dispatched to Advance Auto Parts, 3980 Center Point Rd. NE, at 7:01 a.m. Saturday. Police said witnesses at the business reported seeing a man kicking a vehicle in a parking lot near the store.
A store employee approached the subject, who then turned his attention to the employee, police said. The employee retreated back inside Advance Auto Parts and locked the door. However, police said the subject was able to gain entry to the business.
A Cedar Rapids police officer arrived on the scene at 7:07 a.m., and a minute later the officer – who has not been identified – reported shots were fired and requested backup.
The suspect, who has also not been identified, was taken to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. His condition has not been released.
The Advance Auto Parks employee suffered minor injuries and the officer was uninjured.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is aiding the police department in the investigation.
