Cedar Rapids men face felony charges after making threatening comments

Two Cedar Rapids men face charges after allegedly breaking in to a University of Iowa residence hall and later making threatening comments.

According to Johnson County criminal complaints, Perrion Denzel Scott, 21, and Christopher Kendrez Brown, 25, along with three unnamed co-defendants, went to the victim's residence at Burge Hall on April 15. They shoved the victim backward into the room and struck the victim with a closed fist before fleeing. The victim called 911 and reported the burglary.

The next night, Scott and Brown, who criminal complaints identify as cousins, spoke with the victim in a video call.

They allegedly told the victim there would be 'shells” at the victim's mother's house and 'not sea shells” if she contacted the police. Scott also said she was not safe to return home and should remain in Iowa City.

The victim said she knew the 'shells” reference gun shots because she knows the defendant has shotguns in his residence, according to the complaint. The victim said she was afraid for her safety, as well as the safety of her mother.

Scott and Brown are each charged with terrorism, which is a Class B felony, as well as 1st degree harassment and tampering with a witness or juror, which are both misdemeanors. Scott is also charged with 1st degree burglary, a Class B felony. In Iowa, Class B felonies are punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Both were arrested in Cedar Rapids and are being held at the Johnson County Jail. Warrants called for the men to be held without bond.
