CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was sentenced earlier this month to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 for over a year.
Jeffrey Beaman, 56, originally charged with three counts of second-degree sexual abuse, previously pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child. He admitted, during his plea, to sexually abusing the girl when she was 5 or 6 years old from Sept. 1, 2020, through Sept. 1, 2022.
The child reported the incidents to a forensic interviewer at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Child Protection Center, according to a criminal complaint. Later, Beaman walked into the Cedar Rapids Police Department and confessed to the sexual abuse of the child, the complaint stated.
On Nov. 15, 6th Judicial District Judge Elizabeth Dupuich sentenced Beaman to 25 years for the second-degree sexual abuse and five years for lascivious acts, but ran both sentences concurrently for a total of 25 years, in accordance with the plea agreement.
Dupuich also ordered Beaman to serve a special sentenced of lifetime parole following his prison term and to comply with the sex offender registry requirements.
