Cedar Rapids man receives suspended sentence for sex abuse

Oct. 27, 2014 7:47 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - A 24-year-old Cedar Rapids man received a suspended sentence Monday for sexually abusing two children in 2013.
Joshua Froiland pleaded in August to one count of lascivious acts with a child and one count of indecent contact in Linn County District Court. He was sentenced Monday to three years probation. He also will have to serve a special sentence of 10 years probation because it was a sex offense and he must register as a sex offender. A no contact order was also ordered for the two victims.
According to court documents, Froiland sexually abused two girls, ages 8 and 10 in April 2013. The incidents occurred in his home.
Froiland wrote letters of apology to the victims and their families. He said during the hearing he was looking forward to becoming a better person.
First Assistant Linn County attorney Nick Maybanks said the families of the victims agreed to the pleas and the suspended sentence for Froiland.
