CEDAR RAPIDS — A serial sexual abuse convict from Cedar Rapids, who in 2021 was sentenced to 12 years in prison after convictions in two sexual abuse cases, has now been charged with sexually assaulting a child back in 2014.
Tanner Hart, 28, was convicted in May 2021 of third-degree sexual abuse after he grabbed an 18-year-old woman her by the throat, forced her onto the bed and sexually abused her in 2019, according to testimony given at trial. In September 2021, he pleaded guilty to intent to commit sexual abuse, in a case in which he had originally been charged with third-degree sexual abuse after a second woman reported that he sexually abused her in 2019.
Hart was sentenced to 12 years in prison — 10 for the sexual abuse charge and two for the intent to commit sexual abuse charge.
On Friday, Aug. 1, Hart was transferred from the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton, Iowa to the Linn County Jail, where he was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of indecent contact with a child.
According to a criminal complaint, Hart is accused of sexually abusing an 8- or 9-year-old child between June and August of 2014, when he was 17 years old.
As of Monday morning Hart had not had a first appearance in court yet on the new charges. A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the victim in the case.
