Cedar Rapids man indicted on federal firearms charge

CEDAR RAPIDS - A man previously convicted in Linn County District Court was charged Friday in federal court for possessing six firearms.
Dustin Kirkpatrick, 34, of Cedar Rapids, was indicted on one count of possession of firearms by a felon. According to the unsealed indictment, Kirkpatrick possessed two .40 caliber pistols, one 9 mm pistol and three 12-gauge shotguns.
Kirkpatrick made his initial appearance Friday in U.S. District Court.
Kirkpatrick was previously convicted in 2010 for interference with an official act, and possession of dangerous weapon or firearm in Linn County District Court.
The government also filed a forfeiture allegation for the firearms.
