Cedar Rapids man faces multiple charges after alleged theft from vehicle

A Cedar Rapids man faces multiple charges after he allegedly broke into a vehicle over the weekend and stole several items.
According to the criminal complaint, Marion police responded on Sunday to the 2500 block of Eastlawn Drive in Marion after receiving a report of a "suspicious male walking with a box and a backpack."
When officers arrived, they said the suspect - identified as Virgil P. McGuire, 31 - took off running. Once apprehended, police said officers found several items in McGuire's possession that he had allegedly taken from a vehicle. Police said McGuire also had burglary tools and marijuana on his person.
The complaint states McGuire entered the vehicle and removed items valued at between $1,000 and $10,000.
McGuire faces charges of second-degree theft, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary, tools and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana.
