A Cedar Rapids man was convicted last Friday in federal court for pornography charges following a four-day trial.
James Sumner, 49, was convicted of one count of receipt of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography. The jury deliberated more than six hours following last week's trial in U.S. District Court.
According to evidence at trial, Sumner downloaded child pornography from the Internet between 2007 and 2008. Sumner also possessed child pornography on CDs at his residence between 2007 and 2011.
He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years up to 50 years in federal prison and $1 million in fines. He also will be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing hasn't been set at this time.
