Cedar Rapids man charged with sexual abuse of 8-year-old

A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Thursday on charges that he sexually abused a child multiple times while the child was between 5 and 8 years old.

Jeffrey Wayne Beaman, 56, is charged with three counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of lascivious acts with a child.

According to a criminal complaint, the 8-year-old child reported the abuse to a parent and later to a forensic interviewer at a child protection center.

Beaman later walked into the Cedar Rapids Police Department and confessed to sexually abusing the child from the time she was 5 or 6 years old to about a month before coming into the police department, the complaint states.

He had his first appearance in court Friday and is being held in the Linn County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
