Apr. 19, 2022 2:26 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree robbery in connection with a robbery on New Year's Day.
Martavius Jameel Northern, 19, is accused of entering a Cedar Rapids home in the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue SE with DeWayne L. Hunt, 20, who was arrested in January.
Hunt and Northern demanded marijuana from two people in the home, according to criminal complaints against them. Hunt had a loaded Glock handgun and fired a shot during a struggle with the residents.
Hunt was held by the victims until police arrived, the criminal complaints state. Interviews with witnesses and video surveillance led to Northern being identified as the other perpetrator.
Northern was arrested on a warrant and is being held in the Linn County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Hunt was arrested when police arrived on the scene in January. He is charged with first-degree robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm and use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.
Hunt is scheduled to have a jury trial Aug. 2.
