CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids fired a gun into the air this weekend outside a downtown bar and was arrested on assault charges, authorities said.
Johnny Gonzalez, 28, is charged with two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and one count each of public intoxication, assault with intent to commit sex abuse, carrying a weapon while intoxicated, reckless use of a firearm and interference with official acts.
Gonzalez was at the Rock Bar, 219 Second Ave. SE, on Saturday night and put his hand down a woman’s dress, according to a criminal complaint. He was confronted by two men and then pulled out a gun and pointed it at them. He then left the bar and fired his gun into the air multiple times, according to the complaint.
No one was injured. When police officers confronted Gonzalez, he showed signs of intoxication and refused to cooperate or give his name, the complaint states.
Gonzalez was arrested early Sunday and had his initial appearance in court Sunday. He was being held in the Linn County Jail on $10,000 bail.
