Cedar Rapids man arrested in robbery, assault with nail gun

Benjamin Brewer pleaded down to extortion (Class D felony), assault while displaying a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor) and fourth-degree criminal mischief (serious misdemeanor). In March 2022, he was sentenced to one year in a residential facility and three years probation.
CEDAR RAPIDS — A 33-year-old Cedar Rapids man is accused of using a nail gun in an August robbery.
Benjamin Brewer is accused of ordering a man to empty his pockets while holding a framing nail gun to the man’s head Aug. 27 in the 1800 block of A Avenue NE.
He also is accused of using the nail gun to flatten two tires on the man’s vehicle.
The man told police it was Brewer who robbed and threatened him, according to court documents. Police recovered the nail gun at the scene.
Brewer, who was arrested early Monday, is charged with first-degree robbery, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief.
