A Cedar Rapids man faces theft charges based on allegations he stole a truck from a Benton County woman.
Trenton D. McCleary, 31, was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Police officers stopped a 2009 Chevy Tahoe Monday on 20th Street SE after seeing the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Benton County, court records show.
'Officers identified the driver as the defendant and he admitted stealing the vehicle after finding the keys in the ignition,” court records said. 'The defendant stated he ‘needed the wheels'.”
