CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Thursday on a charge of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed, according to a Cedar Rapids Police Department news release.
Nickie Williams, 49, also is facing charges of willful injury causing serious injury and assault domestic abuse with intent to inflict serious injury.
Williams called 911 shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday and told dispatchers he had stabbed Marquita Robertson, according to a criminal complaint. Williams had been in a relationship with Robertson, but there was a no-contact order in place at the time of the stabbing.
Police responded to the 3000 block of Oakland Rd NE and found Robertson with a laceration of several inches in her throat and two stab wounds in her back, the criminal complaint states.
She was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for injuries in a lung and her back and throat. She remains in stable condition, according to the release.
Williams was not at the scene when police arrived, but the woman identified him as her attacker. Police found him in a parking lot less than an hour later.
He is being held in the Linn County Correctional Center.
