Cedar Rapids garage a ‘total loss’ after Monday fire

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire at 3:15 p.m. Monday in southeast Cedar Rapids. After the flames were subdued the detached garage was deemed a 'total loss” because of the damage, according to a news release.
Firefighters arrived at the scene, 1036 15th St SE, to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the garage. However, the fire was subdued within five minutes.
Although someone was home at the time of the incident no injuries were reported and no one was displaced, according to the release.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Engine 1 was moved to the new Cedar Rapids Central Fire Station on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, as crews began responding out of the new station. (Liz Martin/The Gazette)
