Cedar Rapids Firefighters respond to Quaker Oats oven fire
Jun. 4, 2018 5:17 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a fire at Quaker Oats, 418 Second St. NE. Monday afternoon after product in an oven caught on fire.
No injuries were reported.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said the department received a call about the fire around 3:15 p.m. Monday. Between five and six trucks were on site, he said. Firefighters advanced to the source of the fire, an oven on the 10th floor of Quaker's facility, and found smoke on the ninth floor, Buelow said.
'They have now really quickly made it to the 10th floor and they are advancing to the oven area where they have product inside the oven that's on fire,” he said.
Buelow said the department expects firefighters will be on scene for 'quite a while” since product will need to be removed from the oven.
