Cedar Rapids Firefighters battle blaze on Goblin Gulley Drive

No residents were hurt during a house fire Friday afternoon in southeast Cedar Rapids.
According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department's Twitter account, firefighters responded to a fire at 2121 Goblin Gulley Drive SE at 2:22 p.m. and were still on the scene after battling the flames more than a half-hour later. Everyone in the home evacuated safely, however, the fire department said.
A release from the department late Friday night indicated that the fire was initially thought to have started in the kitchen as the fire was called in by the homeowner, but when firefighte4rs arrived on the scene they found fires on the second floor and basement in addition to the first floor.
Some time after the fire was additionally responsded to, the commander on the scene called for a second alarm, bringing more firefighters to the home.
According to the release, crews 'overhauled” the first and second floors, enabling them to extinguish 'hidden spot fires.” Still, fire, smoke, and water damage were apparent throughout the residence. The exact damage amount to the home was not disclosed in the release.
The occupants, although uninjured, were displaced. The fire department was assisted on the scene by the Salvation Army, Alliant Energy, the Cedar Rapids Police and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
According to the release, the Cedar Rapids Police helped block traffic during the fire, and the streets department brought sand to allow fire responders to exit safely afterward.
The fire remains under investigaqtion.
