The Iowa Board of Medicine has filed formal disciplinary charges against a Cedar Rapids oncologist after police say he touched a 14-year-old female inappropriately while she was a guest at his home in Iowa City.
A Tuesday news release from the board said the charges were filed against Thomas L. Warren Jr., 45, on Jan. 11, 2013 dating back to the alleged March 2012 incident. A hearing before the medical board has been scheduled for Nov. 12, 2013.
A complaint from the Iowa City police department said Warren touched the girl's breast and tried to remove her tank top while she was trying to sleep. The girl then rolled over, which caused Warren to leave the area.
The report said Warren's wife took the girl home. The girl had texted her father to pick her up, but he didn't receive the message because he was asleep, according to the report. The girl's parents told police they woke up when she got home, and that she looked visibly upset and told them that Warren had touched her. Warren told police he was adjusting the blankets on the girl, and that it was the first time he had ever tucked her in, complaints said.
Online court documents show Warren pleaded not guilty to the charges. A trial has been set for March 5, 2013.
Indecent contact with a child is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $6,250.
