CEDAR RAPIDS -- A boy was killed Saturday morning in a northwest Cedar Rapids shooting, police said.
Cedar Rapids police released few details of the shooting, including the boy’s age or the circumstances leading to the gunfire, and did not announce that any arrests had been made in the case.
A public safety spokesman said it “appears to be a targeted incident.”
Several people called 911 shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday about shots being fired in the 1600 block of F Avenue NW, police said. The “juvenile male” died at the scene, police said, and there were no other injuries reported in the incident.
Police said the shooting is under investigation.
The killing marks the second fatal shooting in less than a week in the city’s northwest quadrant.
On Wednesday, police responding to a call found Jorge Maldonado-Vasquez, 27, had been shot in an apartment at 2106 Buckingham Dr. NW. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Brannon Johnson, 21, who court records say admitted to the shooting, faces a first-degree murder charge in that incident.
