Barn a total loss after fire in rural Mount Vernon

No injuries were reported and no animals were injured after a barn west of Mount Vernon was engulfed in flames Friday night.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at roughly 9:44 p.m. Friday deputies and members of the Mount Vernon Fire Department were dispatched to a stucture fire at 1151 Abbe View Rd. in rural Mount Vernon
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a barn, owned by Dennis Day, 'fully engulfed in flames,” according to the release. The barn was deemed a total loss, but no animals or peopole were injured during the incident, according the release.
Responders to the scene were also assisted in dealing with the blaze by the Lisbon, West Bertram, Solon, Springville, Ely, Martelle, Mechanicsville, and Swisher Fire Departments as well
as the Lisbon Mt Vernon Ambulance Service.
The origin and cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the incident remains under investigation, according to the release.
