An Anamosa man charged in the death of a Springville driver after a crash two years ago has pleaded guilty to the charge of homicide by vehicle.
Zachary Twachtmann, 34, initially was charged with homicide by vehicle while operating under the influence, and operating under the influence, after a crash on Springville Road north of Springville resulted in the death of Dylan Vascik, 46, of Springville.
The crash happened at 2:35 p.m. Feb. 7, 2023. According to a criminal complaint, police believe Twachtmann was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Twachtmann pleaded guilty March 26 to homicide by vehicle while operating under the influence, and the separate OWI charge was dropped. Homicide by vehicle is Class B felony which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison. Twachtmann has a sentencing scheduled for May 27.
A wrongful-death lawsuit also has been filed against Twachtmann by family members of Vascik. The suit was filed in November and still is in the process of being litigated.
