A 67-year-old Allamakee County man was charged this week for strangling another man in a Lansing residence they shared, according to the Lansing/North Albin Police Department.
Andrew Raymond Karvel, of Lansing, was charged Thursday during an initial appearance with first-degree murder. He remains in the Allamakee County Jail under a $100,000 cash only bail, according to court documents. Karvel is accused of killing Daniel William Lundy, 83, on May 9 in their Lansing residence, 650 South Second St., according to a criminal complaint.
The Lansing/New Albin Police Department responded to a medical call of an elderly man — Lundy — unconscious and not breathing, the department said in the news release Friday. Officers arrived and determined Lundy was dead and a death investigation was initiated.
Karvel and Lundy were roommates, Special Agent in Charge Mike Krapfl of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said Friday.
The investigation remains ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
The Iowa DCI Major Crimes Unit, Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting the Lansing/New Albin Police Department in this case.
