73 seconds, 22 inmates, minimal injuries: Anamosa State Penitentiary placed on restricted movement after mass scuffle

ANAMOSA - The Anamosa State Penitentiary was placed on restricted movement following a physical altercation between 22 inmates Thursday morning.
The incident started around 7:44 a.m. when several inmates had a 'physical confrontation” that lasted about 73 seconds, according to a media release from the Iowa Department of Corrections. Staff members 'immediately responded” and took control of the situation.
No staff was injured and the inmates involved had no serious injuries.
The incident remains under investigation, according to the release.
The visiting room is expected to remain closed while the facility is on restricted movement. Anyone who wants to check on the status of the visiting room can call the penitentiary at (319) 462-3504 or check its page on the Iowa Department of Corrections website, doc.iowa.gov under 'about us.”
