3rd person dies from injuries in wreck near Solon
IOWA CITY - A third person involved in a crash last week near Solon has died.
Jose Enrique Gamez Avila, 20, of Wapello, died Monday morning at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he was taken following a Thursday accident near Solon.
Avila was a passenger in a van driven by Tori Saben Smith, 30, of Mediapolis.
Smith was driving south on Highway 1 at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 when the van crossed the center line and collided head-on with an SUV being driven by Kirk Flom, 50, of Solon.
Smith and Flom, both of whom were wearing seat belts, died in the crash. Avila, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered extensive injuries, the Iowa State Patrol said.
