An 18-year-old was killed Monday morning in a wreck on Blairs Ferry Road near Feather Ridge Road in Cedar Rapids.
According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Susan Geels, 54, of Cedar Rapids, was traveling east on Blairs Ferry Road when her vehicle was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by an 18-year-old woman shortly after 8 a.m.
The sheriff's office said an investigation determined the 18-year-old lost control of her vehicle on the icy road and slid into oncoming traffic, striking Geels' vehicle head on.
The 18-year-old, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. Geels was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Blairs Ferry and Feather Ridge roads were blocked for about two hours while the sheriff's office investigated and cleared the scene.
