12-week-old puppy with broken legs turned over to Cedar Rapids rescue, animal control investigating

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control is investigating a case of possible animal abuse after a local rescue organization reported that a puppy with two broken legs was turned over to their care last week.

Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids, a non-profit animal rescue organization, received a call April 1, from an individual who had possession of a 12-week-old male golden retriever puppy, according to animal control officials.

The caller said a teenager had left the animal at their house.

Critter Crusaders contacted Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control to investigate.

Based on preliminary information, officials said it appears the puppy may have been slammed onto the ground, causing two fractured legs – a broken right rear femur and several fractured metacarpals in his right front foot.

The puppy had surgery Tuesday and has been named Kimble.

Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the dog’s injury.
