A Vinton woman who crashed a car into a Cedar Rapids apartment building in July has received a traffic ticket for reckless driving and will be required to pay a $200 fine.
Amanda Harker, 24, crashed her vehicle into the corner of the Country Club View apartments at 340 29th St. Dr. SE on July 20. Tenants of the building were evacuated while fire crews shored up the building to prevent more structural damage and remove the vehicle from the building, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
Duncan McCallum, Building Services Manager for the city of Cedar Rapids, said after the crash that Cedar Rapids would work with the property managers and occupants of the building to expedite a construction permit for repairs, and that the city will work with contractors to oversee the repairs and ensure the building is up to code once a permit is issued for the construction.
Besides the reckless driving ticket, Harker was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability — accident. She was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in relation to a previous drug charge.
