West Union man dies in lawn mower accident

A West Union man died Sunday afternoon after a lawn mower accident, according to a press release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob Doren Bricker, 84, was mowing a ditch Sunday on Juniper Road near the intersection with 290th Street in rural Fayette County, north of West Union. He lost control of his riding lawn mower and went off an embankment, the release states.

The sheriff’s office was called to the scene at 3:17 p.m. for a report of a lawn mower accident, and Bricker was pronounced dead.

The accident still is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Other agencies that responded include the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, Ossian Fire Department, Gundersen Tri-State ambulance, Gundersen Air and Lacrosse County Medical Examiner, according to the release.
