It's time to start digging out that car you've left out on the street.
Beginning Thursday, the Cedar Rapids Police Department will begin towing vehicles that have been snowed in and not moved. The city code requires that the street not be used to permanently store vehicles and all vehicles are required to be moved every 48 hours.
Anyone who fails to dig out their car and get it moved can expect a $25 citation, $68 towing fee, $60 administrative fee and a $15 a day storage fee. The city will also levy a $45 fee if snow needs to be removed to tow the vehicle.
Snow covers cars parked in the 1300 block of C Avenue NE near Coe College in February 2011. Police are warning local residents to move cars parked on city streets, if they've been parked for more than 48 hours, or risk being towed. (Jeff Raasch/The Gazette)
