One person was flown to the University of Iowa Hospital Saturday with serious injuries after a crash in rural Palo, according to a press release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at the intersection of Covington Road and Chain Bridge Road in rural Palo. First responders were called at about 4 p.m. Saturday to the scene, where they found a Kia Rio upside down in a ditch by the road, with one person trapped inside, and one person who had escaped from the vehicle, the release states.
Derek Waite, 35, of Marion, had been driving the Kia north on Covington Road and failed to navigate the curve in the road near Chain Bridge Road, losing control and rolling the car several times.
Waite was seriously injured. He was transported via Lifeguard Air Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital. A passenger in the car, Aubrey Floyd, 42, of Cedar Rapids, refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the release.
