One person dead in Allamakee County crash involving off-road vehicle

A woman died Friday when the off-road vehicle she was riding in struck a deer and crashed in rural Allamakee County in northeast Iowa.
Jason Lee Matthias, 33, of Cedar Falls, was driving a Can Am Maverick south on Paint Creek Drive when the vehicle struck a deer in the road, according to a news release from the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthias lost control of the vehicle, which struck an embankment and rolled onto its side. The passenger, Heather Lynn Jones, 33, of Raymond, Iowa, was pinned under the vehicle.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene and Matthias was treated at the scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office, Waterville Fire and Rescue and Veterans Memorial Hospital. The accident remains under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
