One person died Sunday evening when a utility vehicle rolled into a ditch north of Central City, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said.
Shortly after 5 p.m., deputies, a sheriff’s rescue team, the Central City Fire Department and Area Ambulance Service responded to a call of a crash near 5006 Red School Road, authorities said. They found that the driver had been ejected from a 2020 Polaris General UTV as it was headed north on the road, which is east of Highway 13.
The driver was identified by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as Scott Bird, 55, of Central City.
Bird, who the sheriff’s office said was not wearing a seat belt or helmet at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bird was the only one in the UTV and no other vehicles were involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
