One dead after car crashes into house in Independence

One person has died after a car crashed into a house in Independence on Sunday, according to a press release from the Independence Fire Department.

The fire department was called to a house in the 500 block of Eighth Ave. NE, at 11:48 a.m. Sunday, where they found a vehicle had left the road, hit a parked car, and crashed into a house, the release states.

The driver of the car, who was not identified in the release, was unresponsive when first responders arrived. They were taken to a hospital, but did not survive, according to the release.

“Crews assessed the residence for structural and utility damage and requested Independence Light & Power and MidAmerican Energy due to compromised electrical and gas lines,” the release states. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time and ask the community to respect their privacy.”
