A Vinton man died last week after the motorcycle he was operating struck a deer.
Last Wednesday, Aug. 13, at approximately noon, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received 911 reports of a motorcyclist down in the road on Benson Shady Grove Avenue, near 280th Street, south of Jesup, according to information posted by the sheriff’s office on social media.
First responders found Marvin Wayne Andrews, 80, of Vinton, had been traveling north on Benson Shady Grove Avenue when a deer entered the roadway. Andrews struck the deer, lost control and struck a bridge guardrail.
The first sheriff’s deputy on scene attempted life saving measures until EMS arrived, but Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Brandon Fire Department, Jesup Ambulance Service and Buchanan County Medical Examiner Investigator.
