Local woman drowned after going over dam

The Linn County Sheriff's Office confirmed late Saturday night that a woman drowned in the Wapsipinicon River after going over the dam at Troy Mills.

Andrea Zimmermann, 29, was tubing down the Wapsipinicon River with three other individuals when they went over the dam according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

Three other individuals, Robert Olinger, 32 of Cedar Rapids, Zachary Kirton, 27 of Shellsburg and Amanda Harper, 31 of Palo, were also tubing with Zimmermann who is from Cedar Rapids. All four individuals went over the dam, but Olinger, Kirton and Harper were able to make it safely to shore.

The release stated that rescue workers were able to recover Zimmerman's body on Saturday, though she drowned in the swift current.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office, along with several other agencies, responded to the call just after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
