Identities released of three killed in crash near Kalona

Three people from Fairfield were killed Monday in a crash near Kalona, according to an update from the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. Monday in the 1700 block of Highway 1, south of Kalona. In its update, the patrol released the identities of the people involved.

John McAndrew, 70, of Fairfield, was driving south in a 2002 Buick Park Avenue when he crossed into the northbound lane to pass a snowplow, according to the patrol.

He crashed into a 2013 Nissan Rouge being driven by Charles Person, 54, also of Fairfield. Both drivers and a passenger in the Nissan — Amanda Person, 41, of Fairfield — died in the crash.

Another passenger — Victor Person, 17, of Fairfield — was injured in the crash and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The crash report does not indicate how severe the injuries were.
