MARION — A man was killed and a woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Marion on Friday night.
The vehicle was traveling north on East Post Road, south of Hickory Wind Lane at around 11:38 p.m. Friday, when the driver lost control, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle struck a utility pole on the east side of the road, went airborne and struck a detached garage before coming to rest in a yard, the release states.
A male occupant in the vehicle — identified as Demontrae Poole, 26, of Marion — was pronounced dead at the scene. A female occupant in the vehicle — Mone Dotson, 25, of Cedar Rapids — was taken by Air Ambulance to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to the news release.
The crash was responded to by Linn County Sheriff’s deputies, Marion Police and Fire and Area Ambulance. It remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
