RAGBRAI Day 5: many miles to ride and feet to climb
NEWTON - Today continues a southeastward trajectory. Day 5 features a 68.6 mile ride and 2,719 feet of climb, making for the hilliest day of the week.
After leaving Newton, pass through towns include Reasnor, Sully, Lynville, Montezuma, which is the meeting town, Deep River, and Keswick, before ending in Sigourney.
There's an optional 37 mile Karras loop - named after John Karras, one of the RAGBRAI founders - before reaching Montezuma. Those who take it will hit a 'century” for the day, which is cycling lingo for biking 100 miles in a day.
