Cedar Rapids City Arborist Todd Fagan and Johnson STEAM Academy students plant an oak tree Friday at Redmond Park in southeast Cedar Rapids. The Arbor Day tree planting was one of a number of events aimed at replenishing the tree canopy destroyed in the Aug. 10 derecho. A brief program before the planting celebrated the role of trees in the community and helped kick off coming improvements to the park, including new play equipment, a resurfaced splash pad and further landscaping.
