Driven by a desire to explore, Sugar Bottom Bikes manager Nate Kullbom has the rare quality of performing well on everything from cyclocross to gravel racing. He’s found ways to draw new riders into the local cyclist community, celebrating people at all skill levels and coaching youth riders.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is soliciting bids for a contractor to build 18 stone weirs along the shore of the river as it flows through Wapsipinicon State Park south of Anamosa. The weirs, made of 3.5-foot boulders, would extend 90 feet from the shore, or about one-quarter of the way across the river, said Mike Dufoe, a facilities engineer for the DNR.

Pete Bischoff, 77, of Robins, reaches the milestone of his 1,000th donation of blood platelets at ImpactLife. He first donated while in the U.S. Army during his time stationed in Germany. He started again in the mid-1970s and has continued to donate over the years.
