The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival announces the return of the annual Tribute to Heroes Dinner, returning to The Hotel at Kirkwood on June 17. A big part of this dinner/fundraiser is honoring those in our community who have made a difference. Nominations for 2022 Heroes are being accepted through April 1.

Organizations planning special events that will occur from July 1 to June 30, 2023, are encouraged to apply for grant funding from Think Iowa City, the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Potential grant projects can be cultural, educational, literary, recreational, or artistic. Each recipient may be awarded up to $5,000 for an approved event.

On Saturday, Family Promise of Linn County (FPLC) will host the Joyful Noises event at the Olympic South Side Theater in Cedar Rapids. Early bird tickets are available online for $20, or tickets can be purchased at the door for $25. In addition to the performances from local artists, the fundraiser will include a silent auction which already is open to the public online. All money raised will support families in the FPLC shelter, transitional housing, and prevention programs for families facing homelessness.

Nonprofits may apply for $100,000 through a new fundraising endeavor called the Grand Impact. Fifty businesses in the greater Cedar Rapids region have each donated $2,000 to help a public charity tackle a new challenge.
