CEDAR RAPIDS — Kids First Law Center is excited to announce a new event honoring the area’s youngest community leaders: 14 Under 14 Awards. The awards ceremony will be held Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Public Library’s Whipple Auditorium. Cedar Rapids Community School District teachers nominated students who create positive change and inspire others. Honorees exemplify positive leadership qualities like good citizenship, problem-solving, empathy, kindness, and perseverance.
“As a children’s organization, we wanted to highlight the contributions of young people. And mission accomplished — so many incredible kids were nominated,” said Executive Director Jenny Schulz. “I’ve been blown away by these young people — by their confidence, inner strength, ideas, and independence. They are instinctively kind and inclusive. They are an inspiration for all of us.”
Fourteen honorees under age 14 will be recognized at the awards ceremony on Wednesday in front of family members, teachers, friends and community members. This event is free, open to the public and presents the opportunity for adults to celebrate the contributions of kids in the community.
“We are grateful for these invested teachers who took the time to submit such thoughtful and moving nominations,” Schulz said. “I know the community will be uplifted by the example of these kids.”
