CORALVILLE — The Iowa Women’s Foundation (IWF) will award $150,000 to its Core Grant recipients in 2023, marking the largest single-year total given by the organization since it began its grantmaking efforts 25 years ago. To date, IWF has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to 274 programs benefiting women and girls in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.
The grants will be awarded as $25,000 to six Iowa-based nonprofits for programs that focus specifically on women and girls. To be considered for a Core Grant, each program must address one of the barriers to women’s economic self-sufficiency: employment, child care, housing, education/training, transportation and mentoring. Qualifying programs have until April 29.
“Thanks to funding from the Iowa Women’s Foundation, Girls Inc. of Sioux City was able to start Eureka!, a program that has helped hundreds of girls discover that they are capable of far more than they had ever thought possible,” said Mandy Engel-Cartie, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Sioux City — a three-time IWF Core Grant recipient. “The staff and board at IWF are not only funders, but also thought partners who are willing to discuss ideas, barriers, and opportunities openly. Inclusive thinking is a hallmark of IWF. Those at the Foundation know that what benefits women and girls benefits us all.”
Core Grant recipients will be announced at the IWF Annual Fall Luncheon, set to take place on Sept. 29 at the Hyatt Regency Coralville.
